Aust CH Morndew Game Chaser (AI) - ‘Chase’
Chase was sired by CH Tapeatom Easy Rider (imported from South Africa), a quality black Labrador with a pedigree rooted in Tapeatom and Sandylands lines. Rider was a well-balanced dog with an exceptional coat and otter tail, though he lacked optimal reach of neck. Despite these limitations, he sired multiple champions across Australia, contributing significantly to the breed's excellence.
Chase’s dam, one of Morndew’s most accomplished producers, has given rise to some of the kennel's most decorated dogs. She boasts a stellar pedigree based on Driftway lines, with Chase and his littermate, Grace, being standout results of a carefully planned line breeding.
Chase himself was a medium-sized, well-boned black male, embodying the true Labrador type. He had the classic Labrador head with a true double coat featuring ample undercoat and the hallmark otter tail, reflecting the breed's iconic traits.
Chase’s head was strong and masculine, with good eye shape, rich eye color, and excellent pigmentation. He had correct ear size, though his ear set was slightly high. His reach of neck was good and flowed smoothly into well-laid shoulders. He had a well-barrelled chest and excellent depth of brisket, giving him a balanced and athletic silhouette.
He stood on strong, well-boned forelegs with slightly sloping pasterns, arched toes, strong nails, and tight feet. His topline was level and firm, with a tail set perfectly aligned with it. Chase had a short, strong loin, resulting in a compact dog with an ideal height-to-length ratio.
Chase’s hindquarters were powerful, with clearly defined first and second thighs, good turn of stifle, excellent width of stifle, and short, well-let-down hocks. These features contributed to his overall strength and agility, making him a formidable presence both in the show ring and in movement.
All of this was paired with an outstanding temperament. Chase was gentle, biddable, and adaptable, fitting seamlessly into any situation. His combination of structure, movement, and personality made him a standout example of the breed.
Chase’s show career was equally impressive, with highlights including being awarded Junior in Show, Reserve Dog Challenge, and Runner-Up Best in Show at the 2016 Labrador National in Adelaide, judged by Mr. Philippe Lammens. These accolades underline his exceptional quality and lasting contribution to the Morndew legacy.
